Real Talk: Why Are Relationships So Difficult?
If you’ve been single for years or you can’t seem to make heads or tails of things like online dating websites and apps, then you’ve probably asked this question at least once in your life: why are relationships so difficult?
Is it because times have changed and it’s hard for you to keep up? Or are people’s expectations becoming too unrealistic?
According to a survey conducted by the Thriving Center of Psychology, 56% or more than half of Americans believe that dating is harder now than it’s been in previous years.
A few people here and there complaining about not getting lucky is one thing, but having it be a shared experience among many can be a cause for concern.
It urges us to look into the possible reasons why finding someone special is getting trickier and the best solutions that we can try to make dating easier for everybody.
Dating Is Hard: True or False?
“Nothing in the world is worth having or worth doing unless it means effort, pain, difficulty.”
Though it was former U.S. President Theodore Roosevelt who said this line, it can apply to a lot of things and a lot of people wherever they are in the world.
But if this is the case, are relationships supposed to be hard in the beginning and easier when you meet the person you want to be with? Or are challenges supposed to be signs that you’re doing things right and making yourself a better lover?
In a way, it depends on how you look at your situation.
Overcoming a lot of problems can make you stronger and wiser. There are also things that only experience can teach you.
However, finding someone who is good for you is also supposed to make dating easier because you now have a partner to lean on. After all, a problem shared is a problem halved.
The question now is how to get yourself to that point of having someone with you.
Traditional Dating vs Modern Romance
Why are relationships so difficult now compared to how they were before?
This is a common misconception that is understandable but can also lead people to develop an unhealthy mindset.
Dating before the age of the internet also had its challenges.
If you wanted to meet someone new, you needed to go out of the house and physically attend social events. Trying to stay in contact with someone you liked who lived far away also meant writing and sending physical letters, which took a lot of time and resources that not everyone had.
The reasons why modern dating can be hard and overwhelming have a lot to do with the changing times and the evolution of technology.
Meeting someone online means not always being sure that they are who they say they are.
Everybody being on the same platforms can also translate to tougher competition.
Because of technology, a more fast-paced process of dating can also make it difficult to really get to know someone you’re interested in.
These are all valid issues, but they are also challenges that have actual solutions.
How to Succeed in Dating and Relationships
If you want to avoid romance scams, then you need to use reliable online dating platforms with a proven track record and years of industry experience.
If you’re having trouble standing out and catching anyone’s attention, then you need to learn about the best dating tips and practices that you can try to adopt.
If you think technology makes dating too fast, then keep things slow and focus on your own priorities. Someone who is compatible with you will be willing to accommodate.
It’s fair to ask “Why are relationships so difficult?” because they really can be.
However, it’s still up to you how you can take advantage of all the resources available to you and all the help you can get to make things work in your favor.
After all, shouldn’t true love deserve nothing less?
