International Dating: Finding Your Soulmate on the Other Side of the World
If there’s one motto that’s always stuck with me all these years, it’s this: the world is my oyster.
I guess this is why I’ve taken up a career in professional matchmaking. I want to make sure other people are also aware that the world is a big place, and one of life’s greatest adventures — finding true love — shouldn’t have to be limited to one’s backyard.
International dating has been a godsend in this mission of mine. It’s opened a lot of doors both for me and my clients, giving us a chance to link up with people from all across the globe, people with whom “something special” can be just the first step towards something more.
A Leap of Faith
I’ve talked about the appeal of having a foreign lover and even the concept of expat dating here in the past, so I know I’ve said my piece more than a few times about the practical benefits of international dating.
You get to explore other countries and cultures, broaden your horizons, and experience all sorts of adventures. You get to cast a wider net to find as many people you’re compatible with as you can. You get to put down roots overseas.
This article, however, is more a reflection of recent events and a call to arms for all the hopeless romantics out there.
A former client of mine just got married, and though I wasn’t able to attend the ceremony due to scheduling conflicts, the beginning to Rodney’s Happy Ever After just brought to mind the sheer faith it sometimes takes to find real happiness.
Rodney and his now-wife, Samira, might not have been worlds apart, but they still had the world between them. With an ocean to one side and no fewer than three continents to the other, they never would’ve crossed paths if it weren’t for modern technology and the convenience of international dating.
But Rodney is a card-carrying member of the Firm Believers in Destiny Club (Yes, a lot of men are hopeless romantics, too, so if you’re raising an eyebrow, you can put it down now), and as such, he was convinced his great love was waiting for him out there — he just had to find her.
Turns out he was right.
Just a few months after we met, Rodney joined a singles tour and ran smack into Sam. The rest, as they say, is history.
Fate vs. Free Will
I know not everyone shares Rodney’s convictions, and who knows? Maybe his success story is an exception rather than the rule, but I do know this: love is for everyone, both those who believe that soulmates are found and those who are sure soulmates are chosen.
With international dating, you get to take charge of your destiny and put yourself in a prime position to watch the universe’s plans for you unfold.
Even if you think life is just one random moment after another, you can still enjoy all that it has to offer even if you’re at the whims of circumstance. Looking for love outside the country can be a way for you to game the system. Proximity plays a big role in a person’s relationships, after all, and if you travel and put yourself in close proximity to more people, you get better chances of finding someone great with whom you can experience all of life’s randomness.
But if you’re like Rodney, who believed with all his heart that a higher power has set aside a love made especially for him — and who was eventually rewarded for that belief — then also like Rodney, your soulmate might just be a little farther from home than you first expected.
Either way, it’s hard to deny that go-getters are those more likely to succeed in their goals. Rodney, for all his hopeless romanticism, still took a risk and packed his bags to see the rest of the world.
It just so happens that the rest of the world was where the love of his life had been waiting.
