Though this year’s actual Valentine’s Day may be over, we all know the same special date will come again next year, so it’s better to be ahead of the curve while it’s still the month of hearts.

One important goal for this occasion is to make the best greeting cards for Valentine’s Day, so let me ask you this: how good were yours this year?

What Makes a Good Valentine’s Day Card?

The purpose of any Valentine’s Day card is to make someone you love happy.

Men, in particular, are usually expected to make cards for the women in their lives. A survey by the National Retail Federation found that Americans planned to spend $1.4 billion on Valentine’s greeting cards for this year alone. It’s a romantic tradition that is popular during a holiday that celebrates romance.

Since you have a lot of possible recipients, a good card should be sincere and appropriate. It also has to reflect the relationship you have with the person you’re giving it to.

The card you send to your mom or grandmother can be sweet and duly heartfelt, but it shouldn’t overshadow the ones they get from their respective husbands.

Similarly, the greeting cards for Valentine’s Day that your girlfriend or wife will receive from you must be the best every year, if not in cost and presentation then at least in terms of effort and content.

Things to Put in Your Next Card

If you think your previous cards can still be better, then you need to understand that the key is in writing really good Valentine’s Day card messages.

Below are some suggestions that can make your card even more romantic and well-crafted:

  • Valentine’s Day Quotes

It can seem like an obvious and unoriginal choice, but there are ways to put quotes and even poetry about love in your cards while still making it special.

The trick is to pick words that mean something to you and the person you love. You can include lyrics from your favorite love songs or lines from a movie that you both adore.

If you know your partner’s favorite book or poet, you can even have specific quotes outlined in gorgeous calligraphy to make your card both visually and emotionally captivating.

  • Heartfelt Sentiment

This is ultimately the heart of all greeting cards for Valentine’s Day: your personalized message.

While you don’t necessarily have to be as good as Keats or Pablo Neruda, you can still channel the same passion and sense of intimacy. Convey through the written word your genuine feelings so that they may be appreciated by the object of your affection and immortalized in your card.

  • Valentine’s Day Memes

If dating jokes can win you the heart of someone you like, then great jokes can also keep you together and make your Valentine’s Day even more memorable.

You can include in your card any memes about love and romantic holidays that you know will make your partner laugh out loud. It’s one way to celebrate not just your shared sense of humor but also the simple joy of having someone you can tease and giggle with for the rest of your life.
